Garden Route Co. is a California-based design-build landscape studio focused on creating sustainable, well-crafted outdoor environments. Our work brings together landscape architecture, construction, and long-term care to shape spaces that feel intentional, grounded, and built to last.

Inspired by South Africa’s Garden Route and guided by a respect for place, each project is approached with attention to site, climate, and how people live within their surroundings. By leading projects from concept through construction and stewardship, we ensure clarity, continuity, and enduring quality in everything we build.

Built on Care and Collaboration

Led by founders Richard Radford and Sandy Ayers, The Garden Route Co. was built on a shared philosophy: that design and construction should reflect care for both people and place. We approach every project with craftsmanship, transparency, and collaboration; whether it’s a residential build, landscape restoration, or long-term garden care.

Our studio operates as a unified team of architects, builders, and landscape specialists who believe the best environments emerge when design and construction evolve together. We honor the details that define a home; the way light moves through a space, the texture of a wall, the line of a garden path. Our goal is to create enduring spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful, grounded in sustainability and made to last.

Recognition for Enduring Craft

The Garden Route Co. has received numerous design and construction honors, including Best of Show (2010 & 2011) at the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show, the 2015 Gold Garden Creator Award, the CLCA Best Contractor/Builder Award, and recognition from the Garden Conservancy and Gachina Sustainability programs.
